In 1924, Joseph Young built a three-sided band shell in the "frame vernacular" style to provide free entertainment for visitors. It was called the "Theater under the Stars". Today it's known as the "Hollywood Beach Theater" and it is still free outdoor entertainment.
Hollywood Beach’s famous 2.5-mile Broadwalk was built in March 1923. The “Broad Walk” was the first paved passage on Hollywood Beach. The pink cement Broadwalk had been a victim of the hurricane of 1926, so the city laid wood boards in its place. Consistent with J.W. Young’s vision for the beach, Hollywood Beach offers many hotels, cafes, shops and restaurants, public shower and bathroom facilities, lifeguard and first-aid stations, lighted pathways for nighttime walking, and a full schedule of festivals, concerts, theatre and tournaments. The Broadwalk, which now includes a separate bike lane, was listed in the top 10 great places to have some fun on a boardwalk.
